Who lives in a coffin under the ground? Yahoo messenger. However, there are alternatives to Yahoo Messenger.

Messenger was an instant messaging application for smartphones and a web-based desktop client for computers that was provided by Yahoo for mobile devices and desktop users alike.

On the 17th of July, 2018, Yahoo announced the termination of the service. However, it isn’t the only instant messaging service out there; there are a number of Yahoo Messenger alternatives.

What was the purpose of Yahoo Messenger (YIM)?

Similar to other messaging apps, the Yahoo Messenger app was easy to use. Free text messages could be sent via the internet, and it worked on a wide range of devices. As a result, people could use the Yahoo Messenger app on their smartphones and tablets, as well as on their computers, to send free texts.

GIFs, images, emoticons, and other files were all supported, as well as text. Wi-Fi or a mobile data plan were all that was needed to get in touch with loved ones without paying a penny for the privilege.

Yahoo Messenger has undergone a great deal of evolution over the years. Before being renamed Yahoo Messenger in 1999, it was released as Yahoo! Pager with built-in chat room services.

Voice mail, Flickr support and video chatting with Facebook friends are just some of the features that have come and gone since LAUNCHcast Radio was introduced.

Why did Yahoo shut down its Messenger?

Because Yahoo Messenger went out of business.

For long-lived services like Yahoo Messenger, it’s not unusual for them to come to an end. As a business grows and changes, users leave, new services emerge, money is lost, and so on.

As Yahoo explains, the company discontinued Yahoo Messenger in order to focus on other means of communication.

When it comes to communications, we’re focusing on developing new, exciting tools that better meet the needs of our customers.

Alternatives of Yahoo Messenger

There are a plethora of alternatives to Yahoo Messenger, including Facebook Messenger, Y99, Skype, WhatsApp, Signal, and many more. It’s important to think about what you want the replacement to do before making a decision.

For example, a single app can be used to make numerous phone calls. Or perhaps you’d like to use your computer to make free video calls.

Audio and video calls, text messages, and file sharing are all available through most messaging apps. Other than Facebook Messenger, which can run on your phone/tablet, computer, and web browser, some are more closely related to Yahoo Messenger than others.

In 2018, Yahoo launched an alternative to Yahoo Messenger called Yahoo! Squirrel, which was later renamed Yahoo Together. However, on April 4, 2019, it was also shut down after only a year.

In spite of Yahoo Messenger’s demise, your Yahoo account can still be used for other purposes, such as accessing your Yahoo mail.
